About the IPS

What we do
The IPS brings together scientists, company representatives, government decision-makers and other stakeholders to inform about peatlands and peat from a global perspective. We value transparency, freedom of speech, participation, equality and fairness in all our actions. All decisions on peat and peatlands should be based on latest science and just considerations.
Who we are
The IPS has been established in 1968 by peat and peatland experts from Ireland, Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom, including Eastern Europe. Since that, we have held hundreds of conferences, meetings and symposia on these important ecosystems, focusing on economy, environment and society matters. Today the IPS has 1557 members from 37 countries.
Our publications
We regularly publish proceedings of our conferences, comprehensive reports on peat and peatland matters, such as climate change and biodiversity, as well as our regular newsletter and magazine: Peatland Snippets and Peatlands International. In addition, we are proud to host Mires and Peat together with the International Mire Conservation Group, and have recently launched the Science Wire newsletter.
